Aurora Aksnes' earliest musical memories are of discovering the piano in her attic, then becoming enthralled by the sound it made. Jan Oystein Aksnes, her parents May Britt Aksnes, and Jan Oystein Aksnes, encouraged their daughter to pursue music more as a hobby than as a job. Her parents inspired her to write. She cites renowned songwriters Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan as influences as well as a love for Bjork's style. She began performing her songs publicly when her mother said they might help others not gain acclaim for her work, but instead help people see around them realize their importance and the ways they impact the world. The piano was her first instrument, at six. She started writing music when she turned nine. It wasn't until her 14th birthday that she revealed her plans to her parents. Aurora did not have a set goal. Her only passion is writing music. Music is her most preferred way of feeling anything.
