A native to Puyallup Washington Butler was interested in performing arts as she grew in her teens. She was a stage performer as well as in the schools. She was a student at the University of Southern California and moved in Los Angeles where she played Belle the beauty and the Beast Princess in Disneyland for a period of about a year and half. Her decision to leave college was to locate an agent for talent who would let her audition for television and films. Butler was a guest on the TV series CSI: Miami and CSI: NY. Her auditions led to part-time roles in the film A Couple of White Chicks at the Hair Dresser, and the Syfy TV Horror film Flu Bird Horror (2008). In 2008, she appeared as a character in Don Stark's webseries Luke 11-17. Butler was a character in the web series I Love Vampires and a regular one in Luke 11:17. The title she won was of I Spit on Your Grave, the remake of 1978's film with the same name. Although initially she was not a fan of the film's brutality and sexual violence, she was eventually convinced by the storyline's feminist tone and strong character. Butler played Jennifer Hills who, following being brutally attacked inside a cabin in the forest and gang raped seeks vengeance on the perpetrators. Steven R. Monroe directed the film which was released on the 8th of October, 2010. Butler began shooting The Stranger Within, a psychological thriller with Estella Warr as well as William Baldwin on Mallorca in Spain, in November 2011. The plan was to shoot the film in Copenhagen Denmark, New York City and New York City as well. Butler played a role in 2013's thriller The Demented with Michael Welch as well as Kayla Ewell.

The career of Ferland has included nominations for and win nearly a dozen additional awards. Her most notable wins are her winning the Young Artist Award (for Mermaid) as well as a CAMIE Award, for Best Leading Performance in the TV Movie Series or Special.
